For me, the song is number 1 priority. Each song must be the chosen one at the time when I decide to use it. The "personal algorithm” of choosing and mixing songs from records is designed in such a way that it assures authenticity. Each song that I use must have something to offer from within me towards the audience: a tempo, a voice, a beat, a melody, an atmosphere, a memory, a desire, etc. I simply share these songs and let them create a story into the ears, minds and hearts of each one of the ones who are experiencing a “Licensed to Chill” session. Because I never prioritize producing a flawless transition, with or without beat-matching, neither I use songs belonging to the same genre of music more than 3-4 in a raw, when I create a session I usually choose the next play only while the current song is on. Practically, we kinda both wondering what will be the next song, not just you. To create this soundscape, for each Set I limit myself to a small selection of vinyl records, while giving more importance to the selection of the songs that play, rather than how perfect I do the transitions. In essence, “Licensed to Chill” is an act, an artist live performance, using vinyls, turntables, mixers and sound equipment, all together as my own environment or required tools of production for my performance. An soundscape environment created with the purpose of “listening to music” together. Instead of being a Dj to entertain the guests, I see myself in the role of a music curator working in the cultural field that has the responsibility to choose and play a selection of songs to an audience, each time in the flow with the context of the event.
